Now, us Humans all live in different countries and all speak different languages, so what about Chickens....?
can a chicken from England converse with a Chicken from say Argentina? or Russia? Do they all cluck away in Chook language and understand each other or dwould they not have a clue????

I think they have a universal language, Wazza...they get along much better than humans do. They don't fight over stupid things like we do, the only things that matter to them is where they stand in the pecking order.

There was some study I heard about which determined that (whatever bird population they studied at least) had dialects or probably more correctly - accents. Just like all of us here. Cool eh? Two birds talking, one has a southern the other has a mid-western accent. Or, lets see Black Country and London...?

    Keeper of the hens

Not quite on subject, but it always interested me (and slightly uneasy at the seeming willingness to poison animals, but anyway) - Scarlet found some study that had been conducted where they poisoned corn and dyed it red, then fed normal yellow and the poisoned corn to hens.

After the hens were ill a few times, they learnt to avoid the red corn, even after they stopped adding poison to it.

Even more interesting, the hens taught their chicks to also avoid the red corn, and this knowledge was then passed on to future generations.

We've learnt just from having hens pottering about in the garden that there are a couple of different types of danger-call - they vary slightly whether the perceived danger is in the air or on the ground (Elvis the parrot or a cat!)

That's yet another fascinating fact! I keep quoting these things to friends but then they ask where I got it from and think I'm mad! I don't think we're mad - much!

    Yes, that's really interesting! Thanks.

Noooo Kate, we aren't mad. Nope - most people sit & stare at a hen house all day. :D

My son just stuck his head in and asked where the hens were. When I told him they were in bed and the camera would be moved soon, he said he thought it was bad watching chickens, but watching an empty hen house?! He just doesn't understand us does he!

The people at work were talking about me going to jail if we don't meet our targets!! (No, that wouldn't happen, but it gave us a laugh). One of them sent me (in the internal post) an emery board taped to a cereal bar with a note saying "For when you're in jail - the NHS version of a file in a cake". I'm beginning to worry!!! Help Wazza!!! Do they get internet in jail? Don't know what I'd do if I couldn't keep up with my hencamming!

Actually I've got 2 female friends who are both in the (West Mids) police and they love it.
