    Hi all
Sorry i have not been here for a while i have a lot to tell you girls and boys including my first day with the B.H.W.T Day it was great!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway back to my post Shirley (my speckled Hen) has a prolapse and she dose not lay big eggs it has been a bit scary for me as i have not dealt with this before but i have isolated her from the others so she dose not get pecked and i have brought her in and cleaned her bum up and pushed it back in and put some ointment on her and am trying to keep her calm and rested so she will not lay any more eggs as this will only make it worse.
She is in good spirits though.I have read that it could go back in and stay there or it could keep coming back out i have done the honey dressing on her so we will wait and see any more advise would be good please.

Hi Lee, I haven't been around for a week or two either, It has been an odd old time for me got some stuff to tell you all and some stuff to forget about !!

I am so sorry to hear about your Shirley hen it is so upsetting for you all. You have done well sorting it all out so far. It is reccomended that you use a liberal amount of hemaroid cream as it will help to shrink it all. You can make a sort of bandage slathered with the cream, so she doesnt peck at it but it is difficult in case she does lay an egg. You could try it overnight as she will sleep and not want to lay so it will be a good start.
Let us know how it goes. I lost my Amber hen through prolapse. We had gone out for the day and to much had come away and the others had got to her. We had to have her put down. I was so upset and cried for days poor girl she was such a sweetie as well.

    Keeper of the hens

I've heard Preparation H can help, but I really don't know much about prolapses, sorry :(

**edited to add** it's a haemorrhoid cream like NN recommended.

Wishing you and Shirley all the best :bighug:

Thank you Girls for your thoughts i did get some hemorrhoid cream from the chemist yesterday and cleaned her up again and put the cream on and pushed it back in but it keeps coming out i have kept her in the dark and given her water and the minimum amount of food to stop the laying process which is not going to be good for her healing.
I will make an appointment for the vet today but its not looking to good at the moment :face-crying: i will let you know how i get on.

Thank you for all your support again you are all brilliant. But unfortunately i had to have Shirley put to rest i guess i new this would happen but you have to try your best and i believe i did that she will be very much missed.

Shirley had the softest speckled feathers the softest comb and the softest voice i have had in a hen oh and not forgetting those feathers down her legs.

    Rest in peace Shirley Hen.

Oh Lee I am so very very sorry to hear your sad news. Poor little girl it was the best and kindest thing you could do for her as it must have been so painful for her. She had the nicest of times with you and your family where she was loved and treasured. Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures of her.

My Victoria Hen has really bad sour crop at the moment poor little girl I thought she had died twice today but she rallied round each time. I put her in the nesting box at bed time and then went back out to check she was ok a while ago. She got up out of the one I had put her in and had gone in with the speckled one that is broody. They were snuggled up together it was so sweet I had to have a little weep.

Oh Lee I'm so sorry, I'm really saddened to hear that she didn't manage to pull through. It's a horrible decision to have to let them go, but you did the right thing and I'm sure she appreciated it. You gave her such a lovely life and the photos of her are beautiful
