    Keeper of the hens

Hencam is doing ok, we're getting a steady 500+ visitors a day, but I'm worried that the site is getting a bit stale?

We want you to let us know what we could do to improve on hencam, and hopefully that will help us keep on improving and stay a fun place to be!

Let us know your thoughts in the forum.

If anyone can find the time to watch a short video, we get a couple of pence each time someone views it - it would be amazing if every visitor did this just once! It would mean we could eventually buy more goodies for the site and hopefully improve the cameras and quality - maybe even have selectable cams?

Click the play button at the top-left of this page!

Oh, if you order anything from amazon it would be great if you could use our affiliate link too - by ordering through our link using this link the next time you buy from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com
    - it costs you nothing but supports hencam!

Okay, I have a few ideas...haha, before you say anything, YOU ASKED!!

    1) Free-range the girls and buy more chickens!

    2) You can borrow Ron for the rest of the summer and have him outside on warm days = Roncam!

    3) Get some cute fluffy chicks and keep them indoors until they're old enough, then move them outside into the coop.

    4) Get a Silkie!!

    5) Buy a second coop and start a flock of banties!

    Tada!!

Well, the little snippets of news under the actual Hencam haven't been updated since poor Milly went...perhaps keeping it topical once a month/week? The info re donations on the opening page of Hencam has always read the same ever since i joined 3 years back too...

Suggestion, do you have humming birds in your area. Place a feeder outside a window with a cam view.
Suggestion, bird house with close-up lens inside to view nesting and eggs hatching, feeding etc.

Borrow Ron and temporarily glue a camera to his shell to give us a tortoise-eye view on the world!

    Keeper of the hens

I'll try and answer the points in turn:

    1) Free-range the girls and buy more chickens!
Would love to have the girls out permanently but Mr Fox is quite brazen and I'm not sure how long they'd last - we've seen it out hunting in the field outside our house in broad daylight. I want to avoid getting more hens until Tilly and Penny are no longer with us - don't want to upset either parties with power struggles!

    2) You can borrow Ron for the rest of the summer and have him outside on warm days = Roncam!
Yes! Sounds like a good idea - not sure how Helen will see this! Might be a good idea to hide Ron for a bit from your landlord anyway, until you're settled in, and have him have a bit of a holiday from home at ours with a cam on him for a short while!

    3) Get some cute fluffy chicks and keep them indoors until they're old enough, then move them outside into the coop.
Not going to have chickens living inside again - been there, had to do the cleaning! It's a broody or nothing now!

    4) Get a Silkie!!
    See Q1. :)

    5) Buy a second coop and start a flock of banties!
Hah! And put it where?! Banties might be a good idea 'when the time comes' though.

    6) The little snippets of news under the actual Hencam haven't been updated since poor Milly went
Yes! To be honest, I'm not sure what to put on there though - any thoughts? We have the blog for the latest 'news' so I'm unsure what could go there...

    7) The info re donations on the opening page of Hencam has always read the same ever since i joined 3 years back too
Agree! But what to change it to?

    8) do you have humming birds in your area. Place a feeder outside a window with a cam view
I wish we did! I did try pointing a cam at our bird feeder, but it's not the most interesting of views (as it's empty for most of the time!) - I suppose we could either try attract more birds, or something.

    9) bird house with close-up lens inside to view nesting and eggs hatching, feeding etc.
Great idea - never thought of that before (embarrassingly!) I even have some close-up filters I could donate to the cause (they're for my camera but should be able to fix them by blutac or sellotape or something) - watch this space (next week maybe)! Might be time to upgrade to more than 4 cameras, but that would mean finding a switcher with > 4 cam connections... So not sure it's justifiable yet.

    10) Borrow Ron and temporarily glue a camera to his shell to give us a tortoise-eye view on the world!
haha yes, see Q2! Did you see the video of the turtle I posted ages ago, with the camera on his back and he jumped into the swimming pool (non-chlorinated) and swam about - it was amazing. I'd love to see something similar with Ron (and I think Lyle has a v. small camera too - this could definitely be arranged I think!)

Excellent, some really good suggestions and points - please keep 'em coming!!

Uhum! Who had to do the cleaning?!?!?!? :face-devil-grin:

And yeah you can borrow Ron (and his run!) he'd love to live outside.

    SUGGESTIONS

Re-arrange the topics on the whole forum.
    Start with the "Emergencies"
Move on to "Animal Care" and the "Animal Welfare"

This would make a better feeling of what Hencam is about to a newcomer.

Then would come the part "I" think is more important = the chat.

I only have one other forum I use and that is a very stressful professional site. This is the one that keeps me sane!

That's a great idea about having the animal sections first Ollie, it might help newbies know where to post a little easier, and it does show clearly what we are about.
