    Give it time, Diane :)

Hopefully there will be a lot more forum sign-ups from the regulars over the next couple of days...

Do you think it's worth having the old chat system as well as the forum? That way if you want a quick chat "in real time" you could see if anyone is on the chat... I can imagine though that between the two systems people would be split quite thinly so maybe you'd never find anyone on the old chat?

    Hi Ollie,

It's probably simplest to think of the forum as a message-board, where people can stick a message on, then other people can come back and see the messages (posts) and reply to whichever they like. Posts are grouped together so you can easily read the entire "thread" or conversation.

The posting and answering are usually not done in realtime, but it's easier to have proper conversations or discussions than an MSN style chat page... People can come back to your post and add replies days or even weeks after you initially posted it.

    Hope this helps!

I have twiddled and poked all my keys and clicked all over this page but still at a loss to find how to go up or down thepage.
What is the 'whispering' about please?
I have used message boards on other sites but have always been able to move about to see what others have written since I last came on.

Hi Ollie! My mouse has a scroll dial in it so I've been using that. But I just tried the down/up arrows on my key board and that worked so my guess is that you are having some other prob. One thing is the up/down arrows don't work unless you "click" on something (anywhere but the 'comment' box where you've been writing actually) Also, I noticed when trying to figure out how to insert my avatar that some of the instructional text was missing until I moved my cursor to the bottom (Where the grey box that sometimes has messages in it - to the left - like "done" ect.) If you hold your cursor there (at the bottom of the box, a two-pointed arrow will appear.) I held my left mouse button down, when the arrow appeared, and kind of shook the page up and down. And, voila, the missing instructional text appears. Don't know if any of this will help. Hope so.
It'll take awhile for the forum to stop having gliches. Oh - my cat is at the window trying to catch a bird. Fortunately they are on opposite sides of the glass. Aaahh. Now my dog is barking.

Hey Ollie - I just noticed that just under the comment box, where you write your post, there is a "go to the top" link (on the right.)

    Keeper of the hens

    Hi Ollie,

I owe you a huge apology - it seems it's my fault there was no scrollbar :(

I'm afraid I used the same "popup" code from the old chat (which never needed a scrollbar), and so it was missing on the forum too.

I've tweaked it so that if you refresh the main page then click the forum link, there should be a scroll bar for you to move up and down with.

Once again, sorry Ollie, I feel awful for making you feel confused about it.

The whispers are a bit strange, they are so you can whisper a comment to one other person, and have it appear in the thread of posts, but only the person you whispered to will be able to see it.

For example, if I whisper to Diane "I hope Ollie is ok now", then nobody else but Diane would see the message.

I'm not too sure it's a very useful function so it could be disabled if you think it's a bit pointless...

    Hope this helps,

    Neil

    Hi Neil,
Just found that it all works now. Then I read that you have fixed it for me. I had found a kind of primative upping and downing inspired by Dianon's advice.
Glad it all works now - there was I thinking it was silly old non-compute mind Ollie !
I hope the hens have their earplugs in, that rain on the polythene is making a heck of a racket.

First post in the forum. I bet everybody winds up in the "Hencam Chat" which will then nearly duplicate the old chat format!!

All three of the girls are nicely line up and Milly seems awake.....

I notice that the exact time of posting isn't shown...which makes my sort of post rather useless....For the record it's 3:15 AM Local time....

Hi Neil, Red, Diane, Ollie and anyone else I may have missed out. This my first posting on the forum. For some time I had only had time to watch now and again on Camstreams so I was amazed to find you had closed the chatroom and at the reasons why. There are some very peculiar people out there...

I was also very sad about the chicks who were taken by what was probably a fox. It must have been devastating for you and Red, Neil, after all the love and care you had put into raising them along with Milly and to those of us who were regular watchers, well, I must say my eyes were leaking as I read the blog.

On a lighter note, please can someone tell me how I add my avatar?

Also I had an idea for those of us who like to chat in real time now and then. Why not get a chatroom on the Webcams page only? Those chatrooms enable the host to see the IP addresses of the guests and also to boot out and ban anyone who is not behaving nicely. I'm sure you guys know all this, but it was just a thought.

    Keeper of the hens

    Hi Blackcat,

The chat page I had was pretty flexible, I could easily ban people (and it had the added bonus of also banning them from the rest of the site), but there are a LOT of people out there with questionable morals! ;)

I always say that I won't let a few idiots spoil it for the majority of the people here (whom we all have grown to respect and consider true friends), so I have to admit the main reason the chat closed was that I simply didn't want it "competing" with the forum - it was often empty or only had one person in who talked with themselves until they got bored, so it really lent itself to a forum, that way it was easier for people to leave posts in a threaded fashion and not have to be online at the same time. (phew - over-long sentence that... sorry!)

I think the avatar, you just need the url to the pic (it might have to be quite small - imagesize wise), and post that in the image icon box in your account settings, then save settings...

If that doesn't work, email me the pic and I'll host it for you!

    Cheers

    Neil

Thanks Neil, I did put in the url for my Blogger profile pic, which is quite small, but I'll try smallifying it even further and see if that does the trick! If not, I might take you up on your kind offer;) It's no biggy anyhow, who wants to look at my ugly mug, lol! It's just the challenge of doing this kind of stuff which makes me determined to succeed!

I fully understand about the chat, that's no biggy either, it was just an idea. The hens are looking gorgeous btw - will any of them be expecting some happy events any time soon? I really enjoyed watching the chicks growing up:)

    Thanks,
    BC

I love Death in Paradise we only watched half of Midsomer Murders as G/ North fell asleep half way through it so I recorded the second half I see we got Vera on Sunday to replace Endeavour So thats good also. We have to record the weekend stuff as G/North works nights but it is nice to watch a few days later and we can just skip through the adverts. Glad you get some of our TV Lynn, its good to share xxxx

Mr Clooney lives in Forrin Parts, Kate, in...BERKSHIRE which is Abroad and at least 15 miles away...his back lawn is well underwater, apparently so he and the Sainted Amal won't visit until somebody has hoovered up the water and cut the lawn with manicure scissors. He wants to install floodlighting (perhaps he wants to take up rugby?) so nobody locally is talking to them anyway...
We like Midsomer too (I've tuned for it a couple of times) but we get cross when we see them go into the church porch at Fingest and come out in Medmenham church! I know it's poetic licence but it's also annoying...

Are they local churches CC? Can I watch it and say "my friend plays that organ don't you know!" everytime there's a shot of a few keys or pipes?

They used to use a local office block as the police station in Dalziel and Pascoe (if anyone remembers that!) It's now been turned into a signing on station for benefit claimants or people out of jail on licence or something like that.

I like Endeavour too - was never keen on Morse but enjoyed Lewis strangely! I didn't watch the first 2 series of Vera, but after 'finding' it I looked out for the re-runs. I do enjoy something to make the mind puzzle.

I always loved "Inspector Morse"..in fact I just watched an old rerun of it a few minutes ago. I tried watching "Vera", but something about her rubs me the wrong way. I like "Endeavor" a lot though and "Lewis". I have always loved mysteries.

Lynn - Mr Clooney is George Clooney, one of your countrymen who is in films and TV programmes and is rather easy on the eye. He's bought huge riverside house for himself and his new English / Lebanese missus and is putting the locals' backs up.
Kate, I play at Turville (Goodnight Mr Tom, Marple, Midsomer Murders, Vicar of Dibley), Medmenham (Midsomer, Foyle's War),Fingest (MMurders) and have had organ lessons at Hambleden (nearly every MM, Pollyanna, 101 Dalmatians, New Tricks...loads of stuff). Never met anyone famous there though!

Have seen one or two Miss (Mrs?) Fisher episodes - they're lovely afternoon TV as they're not too taxing and you can pop the loo and still know what's going on! Never seen Father Brown so will watch out for it. I like Monk too - very easy to watch, and a quirky character!

I mean how do you manage to function at minus thirty? Nightmare or what they do loads of ski ing and get out no matter whatthe weather chucks at them. They have a saying No such thing as bad weather its just not being dressed correctly. I think I would rather just hibernate. They arrived last night about midnight so after excited reunion we are all sleeping in a bit today !!!

Wouldn't it be great if we could share our rain with Lynn! I recall a few years ago we were warned that our reservoirs were low and it would take years to fill them up again. Then it started to rain and I don't think it's stopped since! They were full in about 5 months!

    Keeper of the hens

We had several days amber rain warning followed by a warning for severe ice, I was dreading the dog walks and we haven't had any either! It has been very cold a few of the days though, it was beautifully sunny today and I haven't been out in it - waiting for the cage to arrive, then a zooplus order (which they messed up) and then the rabbit breeder as they were 2 hours late!!!

We didn't have any ice either which was great as I was running late. Spent most of my working day in meetings and only an hour at my desk. Lots to catch up on now.

Phew finally got house tidied cleaned and back to what bit of normality it usually is. The bedding all washed and stowed away Just a few days and then I got Mallory for most of the summer holidays. I been so busy we had a wedding, family birthdays including a big numbered one for me. Loads of fun every one mucked in so it wasnt too tiring for me. Had loads of outings to the coast and such. Nice to have a bit of rest before the next round xx

Happy birthday NN, glad you had a nice celebration to mark it! I also have a wedding coming up which is also my niece (but I'm not performing at all!!) We're only going to the evening - we don't see them that often and I really don't mind, weddings should be about having those you love most around you to celebrate with, and when you're in your 20s that tends to be your friends. We should make more effort to visit but life just gets so busy doesn't it!

    Apologies for being away.
Will get a note from my mother - she would be 106yrs now!

Had my iPad updated and Wow, where is everything now???
Taken me ages to sort out the new formats and systems...

This hot weather is lovely, though have to protect face as I've developed rosacea. And there I was thinking I'd gone teenager spots again!

Another odd thing has happened - I have let my hair grow longer again and it's gone curly! Was always very straight before. Must be that "Topsy" that Mummy rubbed into my toddler hair to emulate Shirley Temple's locks just started working!

Gone curly?? Amazing...you haven't had chemo at all, have you Ollie? My friend's hair went curly after she had chemo.
    Roseacea's a pain, isn't it...got any 50 factor sun cream?
Is that Windows 10 that everyone is complaining about? I keep declining their 'invitations' which keep popping up but apparently loads of people have found their computers have updated to it automatically.

Hi Ollie good to hear from you, I had to smile when you mentioned the "Topsy" those were the curls every one wanted. I hope you like your new curly hair. My Nan used to put rag hodneydods in my hair. Blast I can still feel the itchy hurt from where they were so tight.
I had to have that windows 10 taken off my lap top talk about do your head in it just wanted to take over every thing and wouldnt let me do any thing my way and I am quite good with the computer usually. I also keep declining the invitations. when we took it off I lost all my pictures and several other things and will have to pay £50 for a disc to restore them apparently, Windows 10 revenge I guess.

I had breast cancer many years ago. Got 'em chopped off but no chemo, only tomoxafen, which I discovered was 50% effective/non effective, so stopped taking it as side effects were 'orrible.

I have Windows 9 now, learning to get it to do what I want most of the time.

    Where are you all?
Can't be away on holidays, it's too late....
Though saying that we have a villa booked for December!
WIFI included, so I'll still be keeping an eye on the hens.

Back to Tomaxafen... I met a woman last month who was told to take it for four years. She thought that meant she would then die... So she took it for TWENTY YEARS. I Dont understand her GP and pharmacist not noticing.

Come on folks. I'm missing the chat.

You're right, Ollie; most repeat prescriptions are reviewed yearly - or ours are, at any rate. Would Tamoxifen taken for so long cause the lady problems?

Hello! I'm still here, just not got a lot to say! Been horrendously busy at work, and also dealing with 2 really good friends leaving - one last week and one today. I've worked with one for 13 years, and the other was like a daughter we got on that well. Hubby is on nights this week so am trying to get to bed early. He snores and it takes ages to get to sleep unless I'm really tired so end up staying up late!

I can understand the pharmacist not noticing, but her GP should have. How terrible that she thought if she stopped taking them she would die. What terrible fear to carry around.

No CC, no norovirus (yet!) - we do have a typical cough/cold/chest infection thing circulating. Had my flu jab this week so hopefully if that starts going around I'll avoid it. Glad the weekend is here! Rehoming is open again - flu has mostly gone, just some kittens in maternity and some in isolation block. Really busy today - people have been waiting for us to open up again I assume!

They used to be, but nowadays with much milder winters it seems to go on a bit longer. They're litters that were born around 6 weeks ago, give or take a couple of weeks, so were probably end of August. Don't think there are any tiny ones. We still get occasional ones even in winter, but thankfully not many.

I don't know how you resist it! Be careful though... A mate of mine was working with a feral cat recently (the cat kennels where she works gives a couple of runs over to the CPL) and got bitten (her own fault, she says). Three days in hospital and an operation later...! Wasn't even a deep bite, and she washed it straight away but it still went manky.:face-sad:

That happened at our place the first week I was there! Cat mouths are dirty so always best to get antibiotics. I've had a few bad scratches but thankfully no bites.

I resist because there's so much choice and I'd never be able to decide!

    I am so sad.
Has Hencam come to an end?

Red, one of the Keepers of the Hens, is so poorly.
The coop camera is stuck on two frames repeating over and over.

We've had a wonderful time over the years, covering a multitude of subjects, often wandering way off the discussion title, with very relaxed monitoring.
While our numbers have dwindled to a mere hand full.

Has the time come to say Goodbye?
