Hi Ollie I am about every so often been so busy with family things this summer and still am for most of this month. I will be away again for sixteen days winter holidays in a couple of weeks. going to my beloved Norway. I am trying to get up to date making my Christmas stuff at the moment plus knitting three girls cardigans. I feel as if my feet have hardly hit the ground this year !!! Minnie is doing so well and is a little lard ass now, it dont seem possible we have had her for almost six months she has settled in so well and is such good mates with Sootz. Yes Sootz is fine also getting on a bit for a Mainecoon cat, he still acts the loon and is very playful such a sweet gentle giant Bless him. G/N is fine also. he is keeping busy and holding the fort while I am here and there.
So sorry you have not been well Lynn and glad you are feeling better now.

Hi everyone, I'm still here too!

Glad you're doing better Lynn-I have a couple of friends who have gone down with nasty chest infections and been off work for several weeks, lots of coughs and colds, and my son has a terrible throat.

Good news on the cats NN! I came across a post a few weeks ago suggesting people make jumpers for their hens and I'm pretty sure the pics were yours NN! If they weren't it was definitely your pattern that'd been used. Then lots of people had criticised, saying they didn't need them blah blah, so I posted that they were intended for ex-bats with no feathers, not for healthy hens! I'd forgotten until I started posting this!

My cats are all OK. I'm surprised how much simpler life seems to be without Emmett. I miss her but things are easier and the cats eat less now she's not here demanding food every 2 hours. I thought one of them would claim 'her' bedroom too but not so far. Work is manic and another 13 years before I can retire. Ho hum!!

I read where one of Red's dogs was attacked by an off-lead dog at the dog park and chased into the street where a car hit and killed it. Lyle didn't say which dog was killed..things are not going well for them.:face-crying:

    Keeper of the hens

She's not having the best of times lately but she'll get through it - she's a tough little cookie :)

Sasha is keeping her busy and hopefully the service dog training will go well and will help Scarlet get out and about a bit more - they went to puppy class the other day and I was really proud as Scarlet was really proud of how well Sasha did and she talked with lots of the owners (Scarlet, not Sasha!) - it's great for both their confidences...

Pixie was such a joy-it's good that Scarlet has Sasha and through her she's getting out and socialising a little.
Desperately sad that a lovely young dog is gone so suddenly, but her short life with Red was fantastically beneficial to both of them.
Nice to see you back Neil.

I so agree Kate and CC it is such a terrible thing to happen but thank goodness little pixie knew what pure love and happiness was like during her short life.

I was thinking that we should all stick together and keep Hencam going successfully until Red feels strong enough to come back to us all. It was always so good to clock in and see posts waiting to be read and replied to from so many lovely and good friends. Now is the time we need more people to help make the site great again rather than just relying on five people. We have loads of guests popping in to see what we are saying and doing. Now rather than just having a look in Please please come and join in with the chat it dont matter if you have hens or not. Just come in for the chat and a bit of company there is no catch and we dont bite. xxxxxx

    Keeper of the hens

Thanks guys, I was kind of getting sad that the community (which has been really cute and supportive, if a little small) seemed to be dying out, so it's nice to hear the hardcore are still here (me included, lol).

As to why I haven't been around, I was made redundant in September - which was completely out of the blue, and caused us huge amounts of worry and heartache, and I think (without been too melodramatic) I went into a depression (which had the positive of making me lose weight by not eating - unfortunately I've put it all back on now!) - I was a horrible person to Helen and made her life hell without really meaning to, we were genuinely worried about losing the house - in fact neither of us slept very much as I was wondering if we'd be repossessed, what would happen to the hens, hencam would die out etc etc).

I had a whirlwind few weeks of depression, not eating, not sleeping, and in the midst of all that going for interviews and trying to think positively whilst really not feeling it. And thank god I found a new role at a really great place, it's a bit more travelling but the working environment and personal improvement I'll hopefully get will make up for it. I started on the 11th Oct so it's still early days but the people seem nice so fingers crossed I have found my 'forever' workplace!

During all this I haven't felt up to keeping on top of the new signups, hencam news or even making sure cameras etc work - I think I fixed the broken one the other day but I noticed an update to the streaming software had broken stream - it seems to be showing an old stream?! I'll try and get that fixed asap.

I'm always upset when Scarlet tells me of the difficulties she faces day-to-day but also really proud and heartened on how she manages and copes with it all and the help she has from Lyle.

I really hope she comes back to hencam too.

Well done for coming back from that blow, Neil; I hope the new job is everything you need it to be.
Depression is a b*gger, isn't it? My dad used to suffer and got really cross with himself, but you have to be kind to yourself and not beat yourself up. We're all egging (groan) you on! And I do hope Red comes back to tell us all about the furbabies and her progress with Sascha. She's such a bright, brave, clever girl and we all love her and miss her.

Sorry Lynn - a secondment is when you go to a new job for a temporary period of time - usually 6 or 12 months - but your old job is kept for you to return to. Sometimes the original job is then filled as a secondment too, but often it isn't worth it, and it isn't often someone returns from a secondment either. Hence a lot of pressure on those left behind!

So ... what is everyone having for Christmas? I don't know what to ask for. Currently it stands at a dyson hand-held vacuum if I can't think of anything better!

Oh that sounds lovely Ollie and will certainly help winter seem a little shorter. We didnt get the snow but it is certainly chilly with this wind whistling through every little gap it can find.
Sorry not been about for a few days we have been doing a kitchen make over.... new worktops amd such. It all started because my oven decided not to work and the hob had seen better days. So I opted for a stand alone gas cooker rather than the split oven and hob, G/N has worked so hard Bless him and with very little swearing I think I swore most getting stuff out of cupboards and trying to find somewhere to put it all but I helped where I could. but with my back back had to be very careful. We managed somehow though and didnt do too badly considering our age !!! We still got a bit more to do like flooring and maybe some new tiles but they can wait till the new year. Its looking good already though

I made some fabric flowers in a Christmassy fabric for friends this year as every one likes them, Anyhow they were on the table waiting to be made into bouquets with some artificial holly and winter type foliage then wrapped in cellophane and ribbons. The man who delivered the cooker saw them and was so taken by them that he wanted to buy three for his wife, just as they were not even gift wrapped !!! Needless to say I got to make three more now and it helped pay towards the delivery fee !!! Funny old world isnt it.

Yes Cc I got three sprigs growing on the old apple tree thank you so much for the seeds. One sprig almost got hacked out by G/N who decided the tree needed pruning and started hacking off branches when I was in the shed looking for something, I almost had a fit and he got a right flea in the ear !!!! He knows doodly squat about gardening although I have managed to get him doing strimming and mowing the grass so maybe he thought it was time to move on to pruning !!!! We did have loads of little apples this year though and have got five gallons of apple wine on the go. The Victoria plum we made last year is now all bottled and maturing nicely, Its a beautiful rose colour but wont be ready for another year at least !!

Kitchen is starting to look very nice and I am so glad to have found a home for most of the stuff. Some did go in the bin though and I think a few baking tins will follow suit. I dont do much baking nowadays as there is only G/N to eat it as I am G/F it is easier to just buy it.

    Keeper of the hens

Kate - a Dyson FOR CHRISTMAS?! Although the hand-held one does look good - I keep thinking it would be handy to just whizz round quickly inside then do the car too :) Really though you should get something frivolous and then get the Dyson in the January sales!

It's starting to feel festive I think (well it is December tomorrow!) - our Christmas tree was delivered yesterday and I had to put it up to "make sure" it was all ok! It isn't trimmed though, that will wait until the 1st when Helen will painstakingly place the ornaments on, re-positioning them to the perfect spot one by one! We had a fake tree for years which was great but it started falling apart so last year we had a real tree as Helen likes them - but in our (probably far too central-heated) house all the branches drooped a couple of days after it arrived!

We need a 'christmas thread' for 2016 for people to post their decorations and trees on :)

Oh, we saw Scarlet at the weekend - it was great to see her and she's coping really well, Sasha is absolutely amazing and obviously adores Scarlet so hopefully she has what it takes to help her gain the confidence and ability to get to the doctor's and hopefully some help, it doesn't sound fun with the seizures on top of everything else.

That was my thought too Neil-I hate dragging the vacuum out just to run over the car seats and mats, and the grandkids are messy so I can just spot-clean. It's the only way I can get hubby to buy household items - if I wait until after Christmas I will have to buy it. This way I can use my money to buy things for me in the sales!!!

Don't know when my tree will go up yet, but the elf on a shelf needs to put in an appearance tomorrow morning as the kids are here tonight and he arrives on 1st Dec!!
