    Keeper of the hens

Speaking of IHP's, and the reason why hencam is still online.... (ie: you lot!)...

You know, (I don't really want to mention this as it might sound really sad or immodest) - but a while ago Cafepress (the site that make the merchandise - you upload a pic and they do the rest), well they started offering proper bound books - you just uploaded content and they would print it out.

I really want some day to offer a "hencam" book - no fund raising (same as the other merch!) - just offer it at cost, and it could contain tons of pics, the blog entries, the story behind hencam, the press coverage, and most importantly the mad old bunch of people who I have come to consider part of the family (ie: you lot!)

And then in some way I could tell people I was an author too which would be cool (hahahaha!)

Neil I think that is a really great idea! The history of a little, and yet international, hen loving community. Maybe because of my profession, I think there is a lot within the chat, your blog, the news articles, and, now, the forum, on how healthy community forms and sustains itself.

Separate subject. I know you've been burned on this subject but why on earth shouldn't you make some income from this site? This is one of the best sites on the net. There are plenty of others which bring in revenue while allowing horrible flame wars and other very distressing behavior and NO chickens. Imagine.

What thread is this...oh yes, birthdates :) Hint.

Lol! Happy Birthday Diane (just making sure!)

I think the book might happen, it won't be a "proper" book but I'd have to invest enough time to try and make it at least semi-interesting...!

It's not worth trying to make money from hencam - although I've had quite a few donations, it can't be in double-figures, so over however many years hencam has been going it's not worth giving up my day job :p

I'm happy enough that the site has been moderately popular, received some good feedback and built a nice little community of lovely people.

Diane, sorry; I've always called emails 'emus' for reasons best known to myself. And occasionally it slips into conversation, when I forget that people don't realise what an emu is. Sorry!
I love that emu (as in emu)'s expression; she looks fairly outraged! My old cat, Trouble, could do a fairly good hard stare. If we'd known what she was going to turn out like, we'd've called her Lady Bracknell ( 'A HANDbaaaaaag??').

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The main man (whose name I forget, but don't think it's Ernest) says to Lady B that he was found on a station as a baby. In a handbag. 'A HANDbaaaaaaaaaaaaag???'

Now I'm embarrassed!! We read "The importance of being Earnest" at school for English. Well, when I say read, I used to carry the book backwards and forwards and don't recall reading more than the odd page or two, but your 'extract' did ring a vague bell. In my defence, I did move to B'ham in 4th year seniors (do they call it year 10 now?) and the curriculum for English was different and that wasn't on the reading list. (Just as well!)

OH!!! WHO HERE LIKES MONTY PYTHON??? I LOOOOVE THEM!!!!:bigsmile::bigsmile:

I think Mia is far more interesting than 'Maria'. You into Harry Potter too? I found myself in the strange position of telling a theoretical physicist about HP and the Prisoner of Azkhaban today when he started on about time travel. If you catch a train from Beaconsfield to London next week, you might see a theoretical physicist reading HP!

Well, I don't exactly live in England...I wish I did...Yes, I have gotten used to Mia, and that's mostly the only thing I respond to. There are two Maria's in my class, and we sit at the same lunch table, except in different "clans". So when the preppy girls at the other end go, "Maria! Maria!" I turn around for a split second and they go, "Not you!" So I don't respond to my normal name anymore. My other friends call me EEEEEE!!!! because Maria has an "EE" sound in it. When I'm at my locker I hear, "EEEE!!!!" and without turning around, say "Hi, Carolyn..."
HECK yes, I'm into Parry Hotter, er, Harry Potter. The seventh book was great, and the day it came out, my friend and I ran down to the Barnes and Noble and stood there for an hour in the cold to get the book. Then we ran back home and locked ourselves upstairs for eight hours straigt, just reading. Except I read faster. Then my cousins came over that day, and were yelling through the window, telling us who dies in the book. It ruined it a little, what with having to get up every five minutes and screaming, "SHUT UP, GREG!" out the window...Oh, the fun we have...

EEEE isn't really used that often, only when Kelly or Carolyn remember...I'll walk into biology and I hear "Eeee!" but I don't remember either. I have selective hearing. Hear things I like, tune out the things I don't want to hear. It's awesome.

Oh, have any of you seen Potter Puppet Pals? It's a mockery of Harry Potter with these HILARIOUS puppets. I quote: "WHAT is this RUMPUS?" "HARRY HIT ME!" "RON INVADED MY PERSONAL BUBBLE!" It's very very very very funny for those who appreciate it. SOO my avvie is of Ron "following the butterflies" from the second animated Potter Puppet Pals episode. There are two animated ones and the rest are live; the live ones are so much better.

OH! I forgot...It's football...Not rugby or soccer, but football...Americanized. You know, the helmets and the brown pigskin? (Not a pigskin anymore, but...) Smashing into each other to try and get as many touchdowns as possible? It's the Superbowl, like as in Super and...a Bowl. The BEST teams (two of them) get together on February second and play to become the "world champions". I watch it only when there are teams I like, otherwise I just watch for the really funny commercials on TV. The Superbowl commercials are always the greatest ones out there.

I like Soup Bowl better. That's wonderful. :P Its like whatever the final play off in soccer is over there is. Only the fans rarely kill each other...

I turned it on with 36 seconds to go. About the time NY took off Mia. Maybe it was my fault *hangs head.*

Wasn't it the Seattle Seahawks versus some other team last year? If I'm right about that then ... WE GOT ROBBED!

My hubby used to be a Patriots fan many years ago when we used to watch it. I still find it funny that they consider it a world championship, but only US teams take part!!! (Its a softie version of Rugby CC!)

We prefer ice hockey now. Hubby says do you watch it at all? We all root for different teams though - eldest has Ottowa, youngest has Buffalo, hubby has Colorado and I chose Minnesota (I like their logo!!!)

Potter Puppet Pals - i love The Mysterious Ticking Noise one, it's so funny and actually quite a catchy song. People walk round the corridors at school singing it, so then other people hear it and THEY start singing it...etc etc :D

What you call football, Diane, we call rugby. Only we're tough here so don't need to get all padded up. And we don't let people into university and the dish a degree out to 'em just because they play it! :)

The winning team is the Football world champion, I guess, and they get a nice shiny trophy and a ring with tons and tons of gems in it...The Seahawks were in...two years ago? Something like that. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. If two teams I don't like are in the Superbowl, I root for the team that's closest to Rochester. That year I was rooting for Pittsburgh. Tee hee.
HEY, oli, I happen to LIKE football, ever since I understood what "first down" means. The commercials are HILARIOUS, like the one this year with the rat in the wall and the guy with the bag of Doritos...LOL!!!! Go to AOL and look up "superbowl commercials" and look up the one that says "Doritos". The BEST Superbowl commercial in the history of mankind, however, is the Magic Fridge Commercial. "Magic Fridge...Magic Fridge..."
Hockey team= the Buffalo SABRES!!!!! My dad's from Buffalo and he gets really sad if they don't make it to the Stanley Cup, which they never have. But they were good last year!

This is youngest (Caitlyn's daddy!) in his absolute favourite hockey shirt! Folk say he looks like me, but I don't think I'm that ugly!! :D He did want me to paint the logo on his bedroom wall when we moved, but I think it's been forgotten for now! He was sure Buffalo would win the stanley cup last year and was gutted when they didn't. There's always next year I suppose!

whoa, whoa, whoa. could someone tell me why we're making fun of football here? it's not like rugby!!! you don't ultimately slam into people and have the one goal of killing them in rugby!! and football is played on a hugeeeeeeee field!!!
the ring is a symbol that they WON. the coach gets the trophy, they get the ring. may i remind us that England ain't like the U.S. except for the fact that you guys got here first:smile::smile:

Its because American Football is closer to rugby than any other UK sport. In US football they spend lots of time messing around, setting up for the play, then run into each other and start all over again. In rugby its fairly similar in that they set up for plays (but quickly) then run about and into each other. The difference is americans are all padded up whereas rugby players aren't. However, our version of football (soccer) is a pathetic sport where they all run around chasing a ball, pretend to be tripped up, roll around (trying to get an oscar), kick at a HUGE net, but still manage to miss. And for that they get millions!! Its a british sport in itself - rubbish everyone elses sport and defend thine own! (Or just wind people up about something to get a response which is what we're doing to you!!! Sorry!! Just join in and slate our sports. We'll probably agree with you!)

Hubby used to have a (british) t-shirt that said "Boys play football, Men play rugby, Animals play ice hockey". How true.

My point is that a glittery gemset ring is wasted on a great six-foot lump of a man, when everybody knows that a glittery gemset ring looks FAAAAAAAAAAR better on a piano tuner.
You DO slam into people in rugby; the trick is not to be seen by the ref. My skinny friend played (he was a fast one out on the wing somewhere - can't remember the name) and was going really well until a huge lump of lard stepped into his path, turned him upside down and shook him till he dropped the ball. It was 'great fun', apparently.

Heh, slamming into people is the main point of football. That's the only way you can stop the other team. I got really mad when New York scored (the score that made them win) because this guy was just in the corner of the Endzone...Just randomly there! There were NO Patriot players defending him! He was just all by himself, in the corner, bopping around...my dad yelled, "WHAT are you DOING?!" when the Pats just LET that touchdown happen...Funny but angry...

Wish me luck in my stuuuupid piano competition today...I have to play only two pieces but I know I'll start shaking involuntarily, like I always do when I'm nervous. It's rather interesting; my legs will shake badly, calm down, shake badly, calm down, etc. AAAHHH!!!

Good suggestions. Before I took my 2nd driving test I was told to take one paracetamol tablet as it would dull the nerves a little bit. Don't know if it works or is psychological, but I passed!! (I'm not suggesting that for you Mia - CC's suggestions are the best for you!)

We have an ad that's currently showing here. It has 4 women sitting around a table discussing 'bowel movements' and the consistency of them. Then one of them produces a box of laxatives to show the others what SHE takes. Because of course we all do that when we get together with our girlfriends don't we!

The longest running one here is "regular citizens" pretending to do a camera test for an ad for Pepto Bismol - which consists of doing an imitation of the Machareina (sorry about the spelling) by dancing to the tune while pointing to all the areas of their bodies impacted by gastric distress including, ultimately, their sphincters.
