Have a lovely birthday at Southport Helen.

I paid an unexpected visit there earlier in the year and accomplished one of my long time ambitions - to see Anthony Gormley installation of the One Hundred castings of himself.
They are set along a mile of beach, some further out than others. An amazing sight.

I didn't take any pics of Gormley's "Another Place" as there are so many excellent images on the net.
Anyway, my cheap phone takes poor pics and and can't find the cables to download. Will ask family to help to try with Blue Tooth to sort it.

Will do Kate, but don't think I'll be seeing her until Sunday! I will show her this thread too though

I didn't realise that was in Southport Ollie. I've been to see that too, when we went people had put items of clothing on some of the statues and it looked great!

The statues are actually on Crosby Beach, south of Southport.
They are there permanently now, it was originally a travelling exhibition.

We went beach fishing there about three/four years ago Ollie and I didn't know they were there at the time. It was real weird seeing them emerge from the sea.

well i just had to Google Antony Gormely and what an amazing sight all those castings standing on the beach and when the tide goes out (such a long way!) they are all exposed and when the tide is in they are submerged. Just fabulous and quirky and I certainly dont think they are pornographic.

Me too TM! His sculptures all have a 'theme' to them don't they - he likes the stand up man by his arms design! Didn't realise he'd done the Angel of the North too.

He also designed a 120 feet tall "Brick Man" for Leeds but it was never built, for various reasons.
There's a six feet high model of it at the Art Gallery.
I think it would have been wonderful.
