The Arsehole of the Week award has to go to Dustin Hoffman, who has a new TV series based on showing the seedier side of the sport of horse-racing.

Unfortunately, despite advice from vets and PETA, two horses had to be killed after they were injured filming sequences for the series.

As long as the TV series is successful though, eh?

Is it an expose of the 'sport', or am I being too charitable?

I haven't read the details - I cry when I read about cruelty and as I'm off to bed soon I don't want to have it as a thought that'll keep me awake and fretting - but know that horse racing has always been cruel. It's all about making money either from winning or gambling, so the horses often come a very poor second (though I'm sure that's not the case in every stable).

Greyhound racing is bad too - there was an expose a few years ago about a man who 'disposed' of 'old' greyhounds (i.e. ones that didn't win enough) by killing them and burying them in a field. They found hundreds of bodies.

So the horses that died were actors for the show...? And they didn't just use clips of horses being injured in actual races? Or have I got that wrong?
