I think they may be forced to do something about the damp, not only is it getting worse in the living room but it's appeared in the kitchen and bedroom too. If they did just paint over it I'm not sure how long it would stay hidden for!!

I don't think the agent at the letting office would let them do that. He sounded genuinely sad that we would be leaving his estates, and was the one who tried to pressure the landlord to pay to fix the damp, sort us out with a hotel etc. If they tried just painting over it I don't think he would agree to manage the property anymore, and I don't think the landlord would want to change at their age!

Red, have you mentioned that your pets are DYING from living in that house to anyone??..landlord.. estate manager?? You need to get out of that place before it's too late...it could be causing great harm to you too..that place is a death trap!!

It is horrible. We tried to talk to the letting office yesterday, but the man in charge said he didn't have time to talk (!) and will phone us back on Wednesday. My parents are trying to get us to talk with CAB again, but I don't know what could come of that anyway...its not like we could just go stay at a hotel, we'd be kicked out for the noise the dogs make! And there's *nowhere* I would trust with my dogs, and we can't stay with Lyles parents as not only would that be expecting a lot from them but also their dog doesn't get on with other dogs...so there's not much we can do other than stay here, we're stuck!

Lyles parents have offered to collect some furniture and pets to take to their house, bless them, so that will be happening within the next few days which will make me feel happier.

The damp patches in the bedroom are already getting lots worse and spreading like crazy. As well as that one of the sheds in the garden (luckily not the one my Giant bike is in otherwise I would NOT be happy!!), the roof has totally collapsed...gotta love this house!!!

When you move out I'd recommend washing all of your fabrics - clothes, bedding, sofa throws, everything, just to make sure you don't take any spores with you. The fact that you walk a lot is good, you and the dogs are getting clean air through your lungs. The small pets are in the house all the time which might be why they're not coping.

The CAB is a good suggestion-they'll support you to make sure you get your deposit back. Have any of your possessions become damp? Can they expedite your move to the news house or are you waiting for someone to move out first?

    Ugh what a nightmare!

No I don't think any of our things have become damp (not like in Thornton when all of our clothes became covered in mould!!) although I am worried that some of the paint has rubbed off on the couch.

Not long now until the move though :)

Your couch? Sounds like it should be compensated for. You have to give a deposit in case you damage it so when the house is causing damage they should pay.

Yes, we own it (I would say we bought it but my parents bought it for us!) Someone is coming around to have a look at everything tomorrow so we shall see what happens...

Zoey is being an absolute pain in the bedroom. We have a broken chest of drawers which means she can get her head in and reach the socks in the drawer, so obviously she has been doing his constantly!!! She is also obsessing about the piggles in this room.

To manage her better we attach the longline to her so we can guide her away before she starts being a pest...well, she acts like this is the worst thing in the world!! As soon as it's clipped on she won't walk and just curls up on our lap all depressed!

No idea why as she's fine walking with a lead on her collar, but she hated it in the bedroom...was quite funny actually

Had a nice walk with Zoey despite all the obnoxious dogs we met! Zoey's longline is perfect and such a nice, bright colour. I like it much more than an extender lead as the handles on those things are plastic and really big and clumpy.

Usually I find longlines to be a massive pain in the rear to manage, and end up tangled and with friction burns hahaha, but because this one is only 10ft long its pretty easy to use.

Was really upset by a woman on Zoey's dog walk today. You can read about it at Scarlybobs Blog

So, here are some photos of our poor abused dog...doesn't she look sad and mistreated?!

They both tried chicken feet today for the first time. They went down a storm! Zoey especially gobbled hers down in under a minute, whereas Kasper had to chuck his around first to make sure it was actually for him, the nervous wreck *rolls eyes*

Red, I'm sorry you had to run into a "Witch" (you can change the first letter of that word if you wish)like that. Zoey looks healthy to me. I'm sure as she gets older she will put on more weight most of them do. My little Jack Russell is fat...I mean (big boned)but, it's hard to keep the weight off her now that she's 9 yrs. old.

Thank you Lynn. Yes, Kasper was very very skinny up until he was about 2 yeas old, I assume it'll be the same with Zoey.

Thanks Kate, we have no idea what Zoey is, we have even contemplated doing a dog DNA test on her! She could be a pure Staffy or, just as easily, she could be a cross.

Took Kasper out for his walk on the longline last night. He LOVED it! He was so happy to be able to run a little and explore more places. It was a lovely walk, unlike Zoey's today...ugh so very shaken up  You can read about the terrible walk at Scarlybobs Blog

    Keeper of the hens

Thanks Kate, I'm just really hoping she can bounce back from it and it won't affect her feelings towards other dogs. We've started praising and rewarding her as soon as she sees another dog, and she gets more treats if she gets chance to say hello to it. Hopefully this will build a positive association with other dogs...

I've honestly seen more terrible dog owners here than I have anywhere else. I've seen dozens of brutal collar checks with the dog being yanked so hard their paws come off the ground, I've seen someone kicking their dog because it barked at another dog (because yes, that will help!!) and just the other day we saw an old man lift his dog by the collar and swing it around as he was angry with it!

We took Zoey on a beautiful walk to the Stone Jetty today. We walked alongside the beach, up and down the jetty, then looped back past the posh hotel, across the field and to the flower gardens.

Zoey got plenty of time to race along the full length of her lead and we did a bit of training on the jetty too. She can easily do sits and how highs outside now, which she really struggled with at first.

    Keeper of the hens

Really really want to give her her new collar now...not sure it will last till Christmas...we shall see!

It has been flipping freezing today! We can all see our breath in the house it is so cold. Even so the weather has been dry and sunny so we have had two beautiful dog walks. We went to the jetty again with Zoey and took Kasper along the beaches, he even got to go off-lead, finally!

Zoey had great fun charging up and down the jetty and even saw her first doggy friend since being attacked. Hooray! It was a tiny Yorkie x Chihuahua and approached yapping but she greeted it very confidently, bless her.

She also wanted to say hi to a blue Staffy, but the owner was too busy whacking it on the head to try and get it to drop a bottle it had picked up...

The last pic is Kasper sprinting off into the distance, happy to finally be off-lead

Had a fab walk with Zoey today, she got to go off-lead for the first time in months. We walked her on my favourite lead, the blue leather one where you can change its length, and she got to walk on the longest setting all the way as the prom was fairly quiet.

The tide was out which meant we could take Zoey far out away from people and other dogs. She had a whale of a time! She sprinted across the mud chasing the birds, paddled and came and checked in with us lots too. She's such a star

I am soooo sick of managing the dogs in the bedroom...please get me out of this house!!

Zoey is mainly behaving (mainly...) but Kasper is just being obnoxiously over-excited with her. He pounces on her constantly, which she hates, and if they both become fixated on the guinea pigs...ugh!

So as ever Kasper is on the longline so we can control where he goes (which he HATES) and Zoey has free reign.

    I wanna move!!!

Haha CC the dogs love taking us both for a walk :tooth:

Lynn I have no idea :rolling: She loves snuggling in the strangest places, and she's so tiny she can fit almost anywhere. When hiding from having her harness put on she can fit under the bed (and we have a very low bed!), on a shelf of our wardrobe and behind the mirror :rolling:

Zoey had a really nice walk today. She saw a really playful, waggy dog that she got quite giddy with. She also said a very excitable hello to someone walking their Dalmation (the owner totally fell in love with her :tooth: ) and a really really lovely chav who simply adored her!! We bumped into them twice and both times he had to give Zoey a fuss and talk about his own much-loved Staffies...very sweet

We had a mooch around the Christmas market today and I came away with a right bargain; a 4ft lavender leather lead (try saying that when drunk!!) It's so pretty! There are even a couple of white flowers attached to the bottom, so cute!

I don't know when I'll use it because I generally prefer longer leads, but I couldn't resist for a pound!

Zoey was amazing on her morning walk today. She tried to play with a little scruffy terrier mix for the first time since she was attacked. She also did a perfect sit, with her attention on me, whilst a group of cyclists went past. Very impressed with her

Has Lyle been for his scan yet? You mentioned in another post about a 9am appointment at the hospital?

Would that make it a Border Corgi Lynn?! Or a Corllie?

Any tips for getting a pug puppy to walk on its lead? My friend is having problems. Max will take a few steps then refuse to move. I suggested only giving him a treat when he actually walks rather than 'teasing' him along (which works first time but not again) but she's beginning to think he'll never do it!

    Keeper of the hens

For walking on the lead, praise him every time he is walking. Use a marker word such as 'yes' or 'good' so he knows when he is doing right (or use a clicker). Bribing him to move is fine, along with an excited voice and lots of praise. She should be using really high value treats such as smelly cheese, cooked hotdog or cooked chicken. Dont force him to go too far, hes saying he's just not ready for it yet, even just to the end of the driveway can be far enough for a 12 week old pup (how old is he?). He'll grow in confidence, the world is just a big place for him at the moment

Oh yes he did have his scan...and it didn't show anything out of the ordinary! Aaagh! They said it could be something called Little Veins Disease (hahaha) and that Lyle would get another appt in 3 weeks time, unless he went to the GP and asked to hurry it up as he's in so much pain...so we will be doing that!

We all had our advents today...Kasper had the whole thing in his gob and was trying to tear it open the little booger :rolling:

Bought a collar for Kasper today for Christmas that would have looked fab on him, it was bright red with bright yellow flowers. There was no sizing on the packaging and the sales assistant couldn't find anything out about it either (it was all folded and cable tied so you couldn't work out what size it was). Well we bought it and it won't even fit Zoey's neck, phooey! Such a shame as it would have suited him so much *scowl*

Some pics from Zoey's walk yesterday

I love how expressive his face is, he has such beautiful big amber eyes! CC he was definitely in the mood for a photoshoot last night, there was plenty of 'sitting pretty' going on without us even asking him! He loves being the centre of attention and always has to barge his way in between anybody else getting some

Zoey is being a nightmare child today, bouncing around everywhere and really ticking Kasper off whilst he's in his crate. We can't have them out together in the bedroom as they both misbehave, so we're having to alternate between them. Really hard work haha!

Hahaha that's the last one they're getting early, I bought them some Christmas toys a few days ago and haven't caved in and given them 'em yet - very good for me! :rolling:

We took Kasper shopping with us to Morrisons this evening, something we haven't done since we very first got him! He was so overwhelmed that first time, the difference is astonishing. After having a bit of a mooch around and doing some tricks very calmly, we went and sat down on a bench. Kasper lay down at my heels and gave little wags to people passing by...he really is so much more confident now, it's brilliant. He said hello to our neighbours the other day, and did so beautifully. They couldn't believe when I said he was a rescue dog and used to be afraid of strangers!

Here he is after his walk to the shops and back!

Aaagh just typed out a huge reply then lost connection to the internet and it all vanished

Haha CC Kasper actually saw one of the presents, he stole it off the side and was running around with it in his gob, the little devil!!

Thanks Kate! It was supposed to be the worst high tide Morecambe has seen in over 50 years!!

Well we are all happily settled in the new house - Monday was such a nightmare day, because of when Lyle's parents could hire the van we had one day to move all our things across AND clean the old house from top to bottom, so that was exhausting! Poor Lyle's leg is still incredibly sore too.

A lot of our clothes and books are covered in mould we have discovered, from the old house. Even some of our furniture is mouldy, and everything STINKS!! The walls in our old house were covered in thick blue and white furry mould, it was disgusting. Think we have lots of washing to do...We're also pretty certain that Zoey had an allergic reaction to the mould which seems to be clearing up pretty well after the house move :(

The dogs have settled wonderfully. I expected it of Kasper, as he's moved about seven times now, but Zoey has been amazing too. We've yet to make it up to the mountain where Kasper can be walked off-lead but we've found some wonderful public footpaths to walk the dogs on. Zoey had her first close encounter with sheep today, she was calmly fascinated with them and would have stood and watched them all day if I'd let her!

We're slowly getting used to living in the middle of nowhere. I think this is the smallest village I've ever lived in, it doesn't even have a shop other than the post office, which sells no food, loo roll or anything like that. The other day we forgot to buy loo roll and had to make the half an hour trek to town to pick some up! I'm sure we will get used to being more organised with shopping though

    Pics to come!

Thank you everybody, we are loving it so far...no damp, hurrah!!! :rolling: The house is just fantastic and we have almost all the unpacking done now, which is a relief. One of our next door neighbours has an adorable (if yappy!) 9 month old puppy that is adorable, so that is sweet and means we don't have to worry about our pups making too much noise.

Kate we're trying to wash as much as we can, but we might have to throw some of our clothes away. I've taken photos of the mould as evidence, if the landlady tries to keep too much of our deposit we will bring up the fact that a lot of our possessions have been destroyed!!!

We made it up the mountain yesterday evening, Kasper REALLY enjoyed his walk! We kept him on-lead as we don't know the walk very well, and there was loads of horse poo up there so I guess horse riders go up there quite a lot...bit annoying as it means Kasper might not be able to be let off. We're off to explore a nearby forest for his walk this evening so hopefully that will be better for off-lead times

Kasper loves horses as his old owner had horses and very unwisely let him chase them around the field...this has lead to him thinking that horses are great fun and there for chasing!!

He has recalled away from horses several times, but it's not something I would really want to risk. I'm sure there will be large areas where he can go off-lead, it's just finding them, the mountain is so huge!!

Some pics from today's walk...the huge sheer cliff is the one we usually walk Kasper along the top of!

Poor Kasper has been well and truly abused today, spending a whopping seven hours in his crate!!

It was all just a bit hectic what with my parents coming around, my dad setting up the gorgeous TV they bought us for Christmas (it's about 5x the size of the really tiny one we had before - we can actually see the screen, its huge!!) Kasper did get a lot of puzzle feeders, such as Kongs with peanut butter and carrot in, but my he was giddy to come out and see us

My parents have been so sweet today, we all had such a great time. I finally found a new collar for Kasper too, a really lovely bright green one It's a Christmas present but he gets to wear it now ;)

We also bought them some chew treats for Christmas and one of those chew roots as well. Can't wait until Christmas to give them all their gifts :)

We took him on a toilet walk just now and it was torrential rain outside, hence the soggy mutt in the last pic ;)

We were only out in the rain for about five minutes as well Lynn!

Thank you, I love his new collar too (and the fact he gets to wear it before Christmas hehe) It was from this awesome doggy boutique in Lancaster that sells all kinds of amazing things and has a doggy pick and mix section with loads of different chews, including things like pigs snouts!!

We had a lovely morning walk with Kasper and went exploring a wood that we drove past yesterday There are loads of diferent routes to take and Kasper thoroughly enjoyed himself and is sleeping away now Another case where he can't go off-lead though as the forest is bordered by farm fields on all sides - booo!

I've discovered a favourite puzzle feeder for Zoey too, it's this odd almost mesh rubber ball that you can put carrot or large treats in She's just about figured how to get them out but it takes her ages and she loves it

Please excuse the lack of full stops in this post, they don't work on my tablet keyboard for some reason and I always forget to use the touch screen!!

Kate it is an awesome gift - I think my dad got sick of us trying to play games on the tiny one, we couldn't read subtitles or anything! It was actually my old computer monitor we'd been using since our old £20 TV died

Ah I used to love splashing in puddles as. kid - still do to be honest! The drying off part afterwards is always the worst though

Do you happen to know what they're called Lynn?! I'd like to buy a spare one,but have no idea where to get one from as the one we have came with Kasper when we adopted him!

I finished wrapping the dog's presents today, Kasper has already tried to open two of them the little so-so! We took them both up the montain today, it was Zoey's first trip up to the very top, she enjoyed it even if she did spend most her time trying to eat the horse poo!! She said hi to a gorgeous Irish Setter too, I do like the breed.

Red, I'd look up ticks on the internet, we have several types of them. Keep an eye on yourself and Lyle too when you walk up in the hills, they love people as much as they do dogs. They can carry really bad diseases that affect humans too.

    Keeper of the hens

I think we have a few varieties here too...I'm sure we've lived in places rife with ticks before and I've never worried about it, but somebody said that a few people had told her the mountain was bad for ticks and now I'm worrying about it after every walk!!

I think the scab on one of Zoey's leg is looking a little worse, although Lyle says it just looks the same to him. I'm going to keep an eye on it and if it changes in the next few days get a vet appt for it, although if it's just an ordinary scab from a cut I'm sure I'll get laughed out of there!!

We had a lovely walk with Kasper and Zoey today (separately of course :P ) to the forest just outside the village and they both loved it. There are so many deer tracks there I'm excitedly waiting my first sighting of a deer, haven't seen one for ages! Zoey loved stuffing her face with deer poop too - ew!

And finally here's the root I bought from Yappy Dog in Lancaster (I finally got one!!) - Kasper was REALLY interested in it as you can see!! Isn't it big?! Not bad for a size medium! It's all wrapped up and in Zoey's stocking now, although it is to share

Still no tree for me-can't find the Christmas spirit! That's a lovely picture of the dogs - what was the bribe to sit so still?!

One of my cats used to get ticks regularly - he used to sleep in the long grass of the garden at the back of my house. They start off small like a tiny spot, then grow ( engorging themselves with blood). They're barely visible when small but go a milky grey as they get bigger and can become very big. Be careful how you remove it if they get one. You can get a special tool from the vet, or use tweezers but you need to get it right down at the base. They put hooks into the skin (and hold on damn tight!) which can mean you remove the body and head remains and causes an abscess. Frontline will remove them. Another method is completely smothering them in Vaseline or KY jelly. It suffocates them but they still need tweezering. They're common around sheep and hedgehogs get a lot too.

Lynn that tree is beautiful, so colourful! :)

Thanks for the info Kate, we'll remember to be particularly careful about keeping their tick treatment up to date. I've ordered a reusable tick remover from amazon as I'd read removing them could be tricky! I've also read that sheep and deer can be really bad for carrying ticks, both of which we have in the forests and fields that we walk through around here!

We were walking Kasper through the forest outside the village today and all of a sudden the field in the middle of the forest is full of sheep...man am I glad we never risked letting him off lead!! He always gets highly excited around sheep (well he does have Collie in him after all!) and was trying to run whilst on his lead, the dope!

Zoey also said hello to next door's 9 month old puppy today She's a Bichon x Cavalier and is adorable!

Did anybody else get hit with the torrential rain and really strong winds yesterday evening? We took Kasper out and, for the first time since we've had him, he was actually scared of the weather, that's how bad it was!! We turned back early and he only had a twenty minutelong walk because he just wasn't enjoying himself. I am so sick of the rain...bring on the snow hahaha!

Yes, it chucked it down yesterday; Tuppence was desperate for a pee and tried every door in the house, but unfortunately it was raining outside all of them.
I let her out of the front door and she froze and reversed back in.

Can't say I blame her at all CC, I am sick to death of this rain!! We actually had not one but two dry dog walks this morning but then as we met up with my nana it started raining again...

Kasper finally got a tag for his collar, a festive bauble-shaped one that's bright red. It's very cute and was only £4.95 from Yappy Dog. My mum also bought them some dog-friendly chocolate treats (including chocolate mice!) and some chews for Christmas too. Spoilt these two are :P

It seems to rain constantly here lately-we had the torrential stuff too and have a gap in our guttering so it pours down, hits the water butt and splashes all over the window and wall. Wish hubby would either fix it or call someone to fix it.

Darling pictures of Zoey, Red. We had snow here this morning, but it's all gone now and it's started raining again.

Don't wait, Kate; ring someone yourself! Otherwise your wall will get damp.

Thank you Lynn :) She loves to pose for the camera, I was taking a pic of the forest and she sprinted into the frame and turned to look at me haha! I hope we get a decent amount of snow soon!

Ugh Kate you don't want damp...!!

Had a lovely day with the family today, my grandad was very shocked at how big Zoey was. He said hello to her whilst she was in her crate and got well and truly licked haha...he said she was a sweetie, obviously we agree! :P

Was so exciting to see the snow today, although it quickly turned to sleet and rain, boo! Kasper still needs a walk today but the weather's miserable so we are holding off and hoping it clears up - ha!

Here she is, running to be in front of the camera as ever :rolling:

    Haha she sure is

Zoey barked for the first time at the postman today - she doesn't even bark at the door! Well today the postman really upset her for some reason and she was huffing and unhappy for about half an hour afterwards bless her...and he didn't even post anything to our door!! :rolling:

Can't wait for Christmas tomorrow, we've had a little snow today too to get us in the festive mood! I think Kasper gets his pressies first tomorrow, after his early morning walk, then Zoey gets released (whilst Kasper is in his crate so he can't guard any presents or the wrapping paper!!) and we will walk her and give her her gifts. How exciting...don't know where me and Lyle fit in hahaha:smile:

Our rain stopped the other day and it's just overcast with a little bit of Sun now and then. I wish it was next Monday already so we could go get our new puppy. We've named him Frodo, cause he looks like a little Hobbit with short legs and big feet.:face-smile:

    Keeper of the hens

We were up on the very top of the mountain today and the wind was incredible. Lyle had to keep a very tight grip on Kasper's lead as he was being buffeted sideways! We've had all the rain too Kate, so many fields are completely flooded my Grandad thought one was a lake!

Lynn that is so exciting and what a cute name! You must be so so excited, can't wait to hear the stories of all the mischief little Frodo gets up to!

Happy Holidays everybody, hope you have a great tomorrow

Some pics from Kasper's walk today...

Lovely pictures, Red. Wow the fields really are flooded. What is the last picture of? A wall in the middle of nowhere? Was there some house there at one time?

Yes, can't wait to see Frodo!!! The wall looks like old stone but newish build - strange place to have it. I remember going up north at the beginning of the year with Pete for one of his track days and the fields were all flooded like that - terrible. We get so much rain now, and with all the building work that goes on it has no where to drain to so the result is inevitable. I see on the news there's lots of flooding down south again. Hows your weather Lynn? Much snow this year?

Lynn I have no idea what that wall is, it sits in the middle of the car park at the very bottom of the crag where we walk the dogs - very bizarre :)

Zoey really enjoyed her first Christmas although didn't understand opening the pressies at all so I had to help lots  She was quite happy with Kasper's toy despite the fact she had several of her own gifts to open!

Kasper opened his in record time, then tried to open our presents too haha  They each got a lovely big walk (NO RAIN on Christmas day, yahoo!) and got put away in their crates with a rawhide and some festive chews whilst we were out. I think they had a good day!
