    Keeper of the hens

Today we went to Bingley show and had a great time!

It was a very dog friendly event, but we didn't fancy taking Kasper and Zoey amongst all the crowds and heat.

There were cows, sheep, chickens, pigeons, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, mice and dog shows! It was great!!

The negative part was that some of the people showing the cows were absolute ***** in that they yanked, dragged, slapped, whacked and kicked the cows to get them moving. It was horrible to watch, one cow in particular was whacked really hard several times and you could see how frightened the animal was :(

The goats seemed much much happier, and some even came over for ear scritches!

My favourite tent was the poultry tent, of course! There was such a variety; Sebrights, Frizzles, Silkies, Buff Orpingtons and a Phoenix I think! It was awesome walking around them all

There was also a rabbit tent, a guinea pig tent, and the GP tent also had mice which I loved, although you couldn't see them very well. There were some magnificent colours.

There was also terrier and Lurcher racing, which was fun to watch - especially because a black Lab got to help set the course up, which was very cute!

The last thing we saw was the fun dog show, where the crowd got to participate. There were so many adorable dogs! Dalmations, Beagles, a lot of Spaniels, West Highland Whites...it was fab!

And we left after the dog show because it made me miss Kasper and Zoey haha...and now I wish I was still there!! :P

I loved the pictures of the show, Red. Especially the white silkie rooster and the goats.:face-smile:

Thanks Lynn :) The goats were lovely - so mischevious! I loved looking around at all the chickens, they had a little Sebright which I fell in love with and all the Silkies were adorable...I so want a Silkie!

Get Lynn to post you one, Red! Lovely pics...but you were so right not to take the dogs. I saw a woman walking a husky at midday in this revolting heat; I shouted at her from my car but she ignored me. Poor dog.

    I wish I could have chickens...some day!

In the last bought of horrible weather we saw a Bulldog that had collapsed and died due to the hot weather whilst on a walk, it was so sad :(

Oh wow, Red that is horrible, the poor little thing. You have to be careful with walking dogs on hot days.:face-sad:

I know, even Zoey in her short coat suffers. A few days back when the weather was up to 27*C Zoey had a little heatstroke and was sick after her walk. I tipped cool water over her to cool her down (which she hated :P ) and she was fine, but it really drilled it home that we can't even take her out in the morning, we'll have to walk her super early to avoid the heat...

Poor Zoey, I hope your weather will cool off some. Our weather is slightly cooler than it was, next week will be better for getting outside work done. I'm so far behind on chores, what with Don not being able to do all that much yet, my shoulder being messed up and the hot weather, this little farm is in sad shape. :face-sad:

I hope the weather continues to cool down for you Lynn. Sorry that you are struggling at the moment - if we lived closer I'd be round in a flash to help out!

Our heat is breaking today, and we're getting flash floods instead! They've forecast "very loud thunder storms". Is there any other type?!

Loved all the pics Red, looks like a great show!

Thanks Kate, it was a lovely day :)

We've had one big thunder storm here today. It woke me up at about 6.30am so I put something on my tablet (loudly) to try put Kasper at ease. He hopped into bed with me at the sound of thunder bless him! Every time it thundered he looked out the window then back at me as if to go, "Huh?!" :rolling:

We had a disgruntled cat join us in bed as it thundered. Lovely; hot, sticky...and then hairy too. :face-sad: And after all that there was no rain. Peed it down today though!

    Hahaha!

Oooh we had *really* heavy rain with the storm, light-medium rain afterwards and now the sun is back out - nooo!

I love it when Kasper shares the bed, which he doesn't do often, he prefers his own...too hot in the bed with us...if Lyle has forgotten something before bed and has to get out Kasper will immediately steal his place though, because he knows he gets a treat for going back to the floor again afterwards

From a puppy(I was about 8 when we got her) Judy shared my bed every night. Foggy used to sleep between me and hubby and I miss that.

We've also had big storms, heavy rain and back to heat!

Jenson hasn't been home since Sunday. If he doesn't come back this evening I'll have to go searching and leafleting tomorrow. :face-sad:

He finally turned up at about 10:30pm, ate, sat on the stairs and washed for 15 mins, ran from front door to back door to see if they were open, ate some more. I started stroking him, he purred ... briefly, then growled at me and tried to bite me so I let him out at about 11pm. I think he's turning wild!

Thanks TM :) I fell in love with one Silkie in particular, she had laid an egg in her show cage. As I was admiring her she pecked at the egg, which rolled slightly, and jumped out of her skin hahaha! She was a little sweetie
