    Keeper of the hens

I am absolutely disgusted to find out that Walkers have started adding meat to their Smokey Bacon and Roast Chicken flavoured crisps. WTH?!?

When the rest of the world is becoming more vegetarian and vegan friendly (Toby carvery have even introduced a vegan option...a carvery!!!) how can Walkers justify taking such a huge step backwards??

Worst of all this happened like 4 months ago, but as we didn't know we could have very well have eaten a pack with the new ingredients...ewww!

    Boo to Walkers!

    Keeper of the hens

Here is the email I sent to them, will be interesting to read the reply:

Posted By: RedI just wanted to complain about the fact that your Smokey Bacon and Roast Chicken flavoured crisps are now no longer suitable for vegetarians...when the rest of the world is becoming more vegetarian and vegan friendly, it is hard to understand why you would have added meat to your ingredients, thus making them no longer suitable for vegetarians.

There are eight vegetarians in my family, all of whom eat Walkers crisps. Obviously we will no longer be eating any of your products.

I am simply disappointed that such a big company would take such a large turn against vegetarians when the rest of the world is becoming more progressive to different dietary requirements.

It does seem strange that they would change the way they make them, at this time. It will be interesting to see if they reply to your letter and what their reasoning is for doing this now.

To be honest I'm amazed that there WASN'T meat in them... but they tasted fine, so why om earth change it? IU hate this; Pears soap smells revolting now, Twinings Earl Grey is nasty now...why can't they leave things alone?:face-sad: Let us know what they say...

CC, Remember sometimes it is us that changes rather than the product.

Not in the case of Pears and Twinings; there have been huge protests to the firms concerned in both cases after they changed recipes...:( On the other hand I now like asparagus that I never used to, and olives - so you're right too!

    Keeper of the hens

    Ugh, olives!

It seems a ridiculous thing for them to do...CC the vast majority of meat flavoured crisps are vegetarian friendly (some even vegan friendly!) so why Walkers have added meat to their recipe I haven't a clue.

This is the reply I got from them:

    WalkersDear Miss Williams

Many thanks for your email and comments.

We appreciate that our move to real food ingredients may mean that some flavours will are no longer be suitable for vegetarians or particular religious groups. Unfortunately to ensure we are using the best home grown flavours, we will be using real pork and chicken within the flavouring. However, only two flavours will be meat flavours, meaning there is still a wide variety of six delicious flavours to enjoy.

We have attached a product information sheet for your diet, which we hope you find useful.

We are always very happy to receive feedback and please be assured that I have forwarded your comments on to our Marketing Team for their attention.

    Kind regards

Only two flavours will have meat in...yeah two of the best!!

I can't say I'm surprised - big companies are all about profit and if they think more people will buy them then they'll do whatever it takes. Saying that, they're going to alienate all the veggies so wheres the sense?

I used to buy Clinique makeup but found out that they've now started testing "products sold in China" on animals. I told 3 friends at work who've also stopped buying it, but that's small fry compared to the vast Chinese market.

Every time I see "new and improved" on anything that I usually buy, it's a sure bet that they have messed it up and it won't taste as good, or in the case of cleaning products, that they won't work as well... Oh yeah, they also cost more. :face-sad:
