No it's allright - it seems to default to hencam HQ when you first see the map.

However, when you click on Chief Chicken it takes you to Marlow and lovely fields with trees around the sides..

There is a pan-in/out little drawing in top left corner, click appropriate sign to use. You can get down to being able to see people. or up to whole countries. (There may be a better way to do this)
Holding curser down and rolling over page will carry map across in any direction.

I like the Google Map, it's interesting to see where people live and read what they've put.

I only just discovered that the names at the bottom were the people who had added a 'flag' and so you could click on them to see where they live...very cool!

Hmmm good point. I suppose the fact that google maps isn't that accurate (or you can make it slightly inaccurate) makes it less likely to mean stalkers can find where you live.

    Nice. Thanks Neil.

I was trying to see how close all of you English people live to each other. Anyway, I clicked on Kate's name to bring all of England up. Then I wanted to close her text box (well, not before reading that she was showing us where MacDonalds is in B'ham, lol) Anyway, I'm clicking around and I hit "edit" I think. What happened next was that her map profile opened up for me and I could have written whatever in there. I guess that doesn't matter now - that Neil has locked out non-signed in people. But - Kate that is why it has ME as your last editor. I know how to shut the text box now (so you can see more of the map) - just click anywhere on the map & it closes. Just not the "edit" line in the text box...

While waiting for the hens to go down to breakfast - which I fear is going to be past my bedtime as usual - I went back to the map to zero in on my house via satellite. Zooming into the tightest closeup up they have, I could see my roof. But the funniest thing was seeing my neighbors truck in their yard. No detail, but could guess by the color of the blob there. Couldn't go in close enough to see if anyone was out in our yard - or if the next door neighbors dogs were out. That would have been cool.

Still, its great to see them out & about. I almost never see them this way in the winter. Penny is standing over what must be the food and gazing into the mirror I think. Probably checking to see if the Beautiful Chicken she sees is going to steal her food.

Kate. As for security issues anyone can use Google Earth on their computers. Type 'Google Earth' into your search engine and you can download the whole programme for free.
Neil has customised the version on here for the enjoyment of us Hencammers but you can customise your own private version too. It is a great tool. I also use it to locate someones' home when I go to meet colleagues at our quarterly meetings, or holiday sites.

Yes, my hubby loves google earth but it just seemed a bit odd to mark out exactly where I am in case of stalkers! I'm probably just a bit obsessed by that sort of thing and thought that if I mentioned being at work or on holiday or buying a new 72" plasma TV (not really!) someone might come a burgling!

If you scroll down and over a little bit you'll find a school and its field, a river, and 3 blocks of flats. We live where the school was!

It seems like some places you can get closer than others. I can see the roof of my house but not much more than that. My neighbors truck looks like a red blob in their drive. I haven't checked out CC & Wazza's locations yet - but it sounds like you can zero in on them more. Makes sense, if the governments have to be selective in who they watch...

I reckon it was taken about five or six years ago; the swimmimg pool in the school is now a dreadful huge building which takes all our sun from the south.
I don't care if the government are looking; they're about as much use as a one-legged man at an a**e kicking party, so they'd never find me anyway. Unless they sent Wazza, and he can be easily distracted by chocolate biscuits...

I just took some time to play with the Hencam Google map a little more. Question: Neil (white), Gloria (dark small ecofriendly car) & Ollie (red) - do your cars actually show up on the satellite shot?

I notice that most people's photos were taken in 2008. Mine, however? 2007. Maybe that means the World Government isn't very interested in Whidbey Island :P

I wanted to tell you all the I updated my map location to something I hope you think is cool. I hope you check it out. :P

Also. I notice that a fast way to see closeups is to move in close in the satellite function on Hencam HQ and then, after that you can just click on each person's name (below the map) and it will take you there at the same level of zoom. For some of us you have to zoom out slightly (again - IGNORED by big brother!) but its still faster than 100s of clicking, clicking, clicking in on each forum member. :D

Oooo! :D Glad you took time to look at it Kate! Its slowly disappearing, that island - being washed away. The white on one side is comprised of small pieces of shell, stacks of it. An eagle lives there and also sea lions come on shore there. Its about a 1/2 mile out from the closest part of Whidbey. On one walk at very low tide (we could walk all the way out that day) we took a long time exploring and when we came around the island to the place where we were to walk back to Whidbey, I was looking a things on the ground. My friend, who was looking up said: *I was afraid of that.* I looked up to see that the water had come in and was past our knees for the whole 1/2 mile return trip. I informed her that THIS might be the kind of fear one gives voice to ... you know ... sooner. When one might DO something about it! We got a little wet. But it was fun. :P

CC - what are those buildings to the immediate (bird's eye view) right on your map? It looks like there is an enclosure (is that where Sage & Onion dwell?) and the some larger buildings. I'm interested in the odd rectangular building that looks like a child has taken it and twisted it slightly. Well, and also whether that IS where Sage & Onion are. (Maybe on the next satellite fly over the resolution will be good enough to see them.)

My next project is to look at each coffee shop garden on my circuit. We spend so much time there that I wonder if any of us where caught by the satellite...

The odd twisted building is our cottage! The slate roof gives way to a flat roof, so the whitish line after the grey at the bottom is the end of the cottage. Then there's our walled garden, with a patio area immediately in front of the cottage to the left slightly (the rabbits' hutch is on the patio). Then an apple tree on the left and the rest is grass. Or mud, depending on the season! Oh, and Eric's Shed/Sanctuary to which animals are not admitted and wives only grudgingly so ('Have you bin in my shed? Wot for?')... Over the wall to the south of us is Ray the caretaker's cottage, then south of that is the school gym and the swimming pool which has now been built on and covered by a monstrosity which blocks a lot of our light from the south. Gits.

    I adore Google Earth.
Yes Diane, that is my little Nissan Micra you can see, also a white chair in my yard on the right of the garage, next to the picnic table.
There is a long, thin, piece of garden at the back of the house but it is difficult to make out. It ends in a tiny 'secret garden' through a hedge arch.

My area is newly scanned. The previous scan was not as clear.
I live right on the edge of this pretty village (no thatched rooves though) looking across the valley to Leeds City.
Been in this house since it was new, for 45 years. I used to live at the top end of the village but there is a motorway there now and some industrial development, mostly offices.

Why can't I get into 'Gloria from Las Cruces, NM US' placing on our Google map? It does not respond to clicking.
I am disappointed and don't understand, why some folks don't exactly pinpoint their home for us all to admire? It's not quite the same viewing a piece of forest or sea when a domicile was expected.

I didn't pinpoint mine because I don't want some criminal coming around and targetting us because of what I might have posted on here! I know, I know, I worry too much!

Ollie, I get it that it might seem a little over fearful. My problem is that because of my job I have to be more cautious than usual about being tracked down. (Right CC!? LOL.) I think Kate is right in thinking that way about her home as well. Anyway, where I live (and probably Lynn as well) all you would see out here in the American west is forest and a roof top. I did have a look at my actual house and it bored even me. Picture tree tops with a rectangle set down inside them and you have it. Baby Island is MUCH more interesting. :P I did have my pointer just out in the sea (sorry about that - it was a case of clumsy fingers really) Now it points to the island just a little way (easy 5 minute walk) from where I live...

I've never used ebay so don't know - but my computer can autofill lots of blank boxes so perhaps that's how they do it!

If I pinpointed my house it would be really easy for someone to find. I was stalked once several years ago so am a lot more wary of things now and less trusting of everyone and everything. It is great to see where everyone lives though, even if it is just a rough idea of the area. How sad that baby island is disappearing Diane. Was it linked to the bigger island originally?

You know, that's a good point Kate. It probably was many centuries ago. When it became an island, Native people had a lodge there I believe. And the white people put a fishing lodge on it and boats would dock there. The old foundations and piping are still out there. Nests for duck now. I've seen a photo of that lodge, so not so long ago really. I think its still owned by a tribe and they are thinking of developing it in some way. Yah, I wish it wasn't washing away...

You'll just have to make the most of it while its still there - and remember to wear your waders if you walk there again!
