    Keeper of the hens

I recently discovered DDA Watch, who help families whose dogs have been seized as being 'of type'. They campaign to end BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), which judges dogs as aggressive / dangerous purely based on their breed or appearance.

I have read through their 'in memory' page, which charts just a few of the thousands of dogs which were taken from their family and destroyed. It is heartbreaking; I was sat reading it on the bed with Zoey snuggled beside me and sobbing my heart out.

One family had Christmas presents for their dog under the tree, as he was taken just before Christmas. They asked if the presents could be given to their dog, but they were refused. Their dog was killed.

Another owner's dog was killed by accident, as the paperwork got mixed up. The dog would have been released, but he was killed 'by mistake'.

These dogs are taken from their families and locked away, based solely on the way they look. They can be kept in kennels with no toys or social interaction for months on end. They may be 9 years old and have never put a paw wrong, but they can be killed in a heartbeat. I cannot even allow myself to think what it would be like if this happened to Zoey, it would destroy me.

Please sign the petition (it only takes a few seconds) and if you know anyone else who would sign it please send it on.

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/en-gb/885/206/241/breed-specific-legislation-is-discriminatory-ineffective-and-should-end-now/

There are many, many reasons why BSL is a load of tosh. You simply cannot judge a dog on their breed - look at my dogs! Kasper is nervous and snappish when scared; Zoey adores the world and has never shown aggression. BSL is wrong.

We will be donating what we can to DDA Watch (which isn't much after puppy stuff and emergency vet fees) and I will be sending the letter on their facebook page to the local MP too.

    Zoey says thank you!

Done it. Change the thread title though - I thought you were petitioning against British Sign Language! :rolling:

:rolling: Don't you know I'm really against sign language? (I joke - I learnt the alphabet in sign language when I was 10 and practiced it regularly so I still know it. Would love to learn more...I can speak a little makaton too!)
Thanks CC :) I was so upset reading about the dogs and looking on their facebook page. It's so horribly sad!

I signed too, and posted it to my facebook - I don't have many friends on there (have a lot more in real life!) and a couple have signed and shared so hopefully it'll get the number it needs soon.
